Roman Coppola (born 22 April 1965) is an American film director and music video director.

Biography

Early life

Coppola was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, the son of set decorator/artist Eleanor Coppola (née Neil) and 5-time Academy Award winning director, producer, and writer Francis Ford Coppola. He is the brother of Academy Award-winning film director Sofia Coppola and the late Gian-Carlo Coppola, the first cousin to actor Nicolas Cage, and the nephew of Talia Shire and cousin to her sons Jason Schwartzman and Robert Carmine. Coppola was born in the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine while his father was in Paris writing on the screenplay of Paris brûle-t-il?. He attended New York University's film school.

Career

Coppola had a small role as one of the sons of Tom Hagen during the funeral scene in The Godfather. He also played Santino Corleone as a young boy in the 1974 film The Godfather Part II.
   Coppola's feature-film debut, CQ (2001) (starring Jeremy Davies and Angela Lindvall) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. He directed all the music videos for songs of The Strokes' albums Is This It and "" for Room on Fire. Coppola has also directed clips for artists including Mansun, Ween, Green Day, Fatboy Slim, Phoenix, Daft Punk, Supergrass, The Vines, God Lives Underwater, and Wyclef Jean. His music video for Phoenix's "Funky Squaredance" was invited into permanent collection at the New York Museum of Modern Art. He is an accomplished television commercial director as well.
Most recently he directed Arctic Monkeys' video for "Teddy Picker".
   He has also had a great deal of work in other production realms, including second unit direction for such films as Bram Stoker's Dracula, Jack, The Rainmaker (all three directed by his father), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited (both films by Wes Anderson) and Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides & Marie Antoinette.
